Unit 4 Goal
  • Student assessment is objective and easily tracked.

Teachers will use multiple tools for evaluation such as portfolios, journals, peer assessment, observational and performance assessment which will demonstrate clear assessment of instruction by showing student progress and achievement in curriculum areas.

The outcome of this lesson will be:

  • the creation of assessments (related to the selected piece of music from Unit One)
  • which use a variety of evaluation tools
  • give clear evaluation feedback

Lesson 4.1: Identifying Criteria needed for Assessment

The Learner will identify and list criteria necessary for the development of assessment tools by using rubrics which describe who, how and the purpose of assessment, consider specific criteria and how it will be utilized for evaluation. The learner should be able to identify criteria for a minimum of three assessments.

Written lecture on specific assessment tools, strategies and criteria for identifying adequate assessments to aid instruction.

Lesson 4.2 Designing Assessments

The Learner will be able to design and use multiple assessment tools for musical performance assessment, such as paper/pencil tests, journal assignments and rubrics. The learner should be able to design a minimum of three assessments.

Written lecture on specific assessment tools, strategies and criteria for creating assessments.

The learner will use a rubric to evaluate and identify specific criteria for assessment.

Lesson 4.3 Creating and Using Assessments

By creating effective evaluation tools such as paper/pencil tests, journal assignments, rubrics and other tools for assessing musical performance, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of the criteria for effective evaluation tools which relate clear and honest feedback for parents and students. The learner will show knowledge of the criteria for effective evaluation tools by designing a minimum of three assessments.

Written lecture on criteria for effective evaluation tools, which relate clear and honest feedback for parents and students. Samples of both clear and unclear will be presented.

Learner will create a checklist of words to help describe quality evaluation criteria. Learner will create an assessment that leads to clear and honest feedback for parents and students which relates to the selected piece of music from Unit One.
