Unit 3 Goal
  • The integration of other curricular areas into the music curriculum is a priority.

Using specific curriculum guides, teacher will infuse instructional strategies for visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners that are student-centered and interdisciplinary to enhance the creative learning process.

The outcome of this lesson will be:

  • the creation of strategies for various kinds of learners, (related to the selected piece of music from Unit One)
  • which are student-centered and interdisciplinary
  • to use in the creation of a comprehensive music plan.

Lesson 3.1: Identifying Teaching Strategies

By using multiple teaching strategies in a lesson, the learner should be able to identify a minimum of three teaching strategies and will show knowledge of the importance of using a variety of teaching strategies.

Written discussion on teaching strategies, using descriptive samples. Comparing and contrasting the importance of different teaching strategies

Learner will describe by comparing and contrasting three specific teaching strategies in written form. Learner will identify multiple teaching strategies as possible strategies for their music selection from Unit one.

Write a descriptive paragraph about the importance of using of a variety of teaching strategies.

Lesson 3.2 Developing Teaching Strategies

By developing multiple teaching strategies for a lesson, the learner should be able to identify a minimum of three strategies for each kind of learner and will show knowledge of understanding the differences between visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners and the importance of developing different teaching strategies, as well as adjusting strategies to reach each kind of learner.

Written lecture on teaching strategies for different learning styles, using descriptive samples.

Learner will identify multiple teaching strategies for different learners, as possible teaching strategies for their music selection from Unit one.

Identify a minimum of three strategies which work best for each kind of learner

List differences between visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners

Describe how to adjust strategies to fit learning style related to your musical selection

 

Lesson 3.3 Interdisciplinary Connections in Music

By creating a variety of teaching strategies that make interdisciplinary connections to the music curriculum, the learner will show knowledge of how to infuse and integrate strategies into the music curriculum. The learner should be able to identify a minimum of three interdisciplinary connections to the music curriculum.

Written lecture on possible ways to integrate and incorporate more curricular connections into music instruction.

Learner will list three specific integrated teaching strategies which connect with their music selection from Unit one and compare and contrast the interdisciplinary connections to the music curriculum.

Create an outline showing interdisciplinary connections in related to your music selection

List strategies to integrate musical components that can be linked or integrated with theory, music history and aesthetic considerations

Lesson 3.4 Student centered learning

By creating student-centered activities strategies, the learner will show knowledge of what strategies work to empower student-centered learning. The learner should be able to identify a minimum of three student-centered learning strategies.

Written lecture on possible ways to integrate and incorporate more student-centered activities strategies into music instruction.
