Unit 2 Goal
  • The instructional focus of the unit relates to the National Music Standards to create a balanced curriculum.

Using specific curriculum tools, teachers will be able to create learning outcomes for skills, knowledge and affective domains, which relate to the National Music Standards.

The outcome of this lesson will be:

  • the creation of outcomes in all three learning domains (related to the selected piece of music from Unit One)
  • which are related to the National Music Standards
  • to use in the creation of a comprehensive music plan

Lesson 2.1: Using the National Music Standards

Using a rubric to evaluate your work, you will identify a minimum of three specific educational music skills needed to perform to a standard, relate specific Music standards to the development of music curriculum and show knowledge of educational music skills needed to perform to a standard.

Written lecture identifying National Music Standards. Introduction of resources for curriculum development using standards-based instruction.

Lesson 2.2 Teaching to all Learning Domains

Using written and verbal information, the learner will be able to identify and name a specific quality of all three domains and show understanding of the three types of learning domains used in comprehensive musicianship by recognizing, explaining and understanding the goals of each learning domain and differences between them.

Learner will be provided with several examples of learning domains, web link resources about learning domains.

Lesson 2.3 Writing sample Outcomes

By writing sample outcomes in all three learning domains, the learner should be able to relate a specific analysis to all three domains and will show knowledge of how to relate a learning outcome to the analysis of music.

Written lecture on specific examples of writing outcomes for each learning domain

Learners will create sample outcomes in each domain based on the piece selected in Unit one.

Write an outcome for each domain related to the analysis of your music. Use the list from Unit 1 musical components that can be linked or integrated with theory, music history and aesthetic considerations which relate to your music selection
